Nilson is a very sweet Chiweenie, weighing in at less than 6 pounds.  He was surrendered to a shelter after an alleged bite incident involving a small child.  While we don’t know the circumstances around the alleged bite, what we can say for sure is that he has been extremely sweet and gentle while in foster care.  He has not shown the slightest bit of aggression toward any person and has gotten along well with the two male dogs in the foster home.  The youngest child in the foster home is 12, and Nilson has been very friendly with all of the humans in the foster home.  Due to his history, though, Nilson will be available for adoption only to a home with no children under 12 years old. Nilson is housetrained and sleeps quietly through the night in his crate, but we think he would probably prefer not to be in a crate at night.  In the morning he goes straight outside to do his business and has not had accidents in the house.  He LOVES to play fetch in the house, and will play for as long as you will keep throwing his ball.  He does enjoy being outside but is fine with being inside too.  He walks pretty well on a leash, but does not require long walks.  He gets worried when you take him in the car, but would probably do better with that with more experience. Nilson enjoys being held, but does not demand to be picked up.  He likes to be around the humans in the home and will sit nearby watching what is going on.  He likes to lie next to someone on the couch, but is not a lap dog.  He does sometimes like to sit in a lap when someone is sitting at the computer.  He does not bark a lot but is not entirely quiet either.  He is a little nervous in a new situation but warms up pretty quickly and his personality started to show through after just a few days in his foster home.  Overall, he is just an easy-going, low-maintenance little dog and will make a great companion for a lucky person.
