Heartworm Prevention is given on the 6th of each month

Pogi is a sweet guy who loves to be near his human at all times.  He follows us around the house, tail wagging and happily interested in everything you are up to, and is really good at helping clean up messes when you are cooking. When he first came to us he was a little shy, but he got over that in just a few days.  When out for walks he sometimes still greets strangers with a slight aloofness,  but here in our home he excitedly greets visitors and will be in your lap before you know it.  He is really good on walks, he pulls a little on his leash at first but has good manners and will pass another dog with no reaction, even one barking through the fence at us.  He has been around dogs of all sizes and prefers the company of smaller dogs.   Pogi has greeted all dog visitors in our home easily,  a couple he has taken a little time to warm up to, but he instantly became best buddies with my dachshund and they play tug of war, chase tennis balls and sleep together.   Pogi is ok with cats and small kids, he has played with my 8 yr old nieces and nephew running around with them in the backyard, I feel Pogi would be best around kids who are old enough to be know how to be gentle with smaller dogs. Pogi can be a tiny bit grumpy when he is sleeping and doesn't want to be moved from his spot, but has never once snapped or even made any sort of snapping gestures at anyone. We are working with him on these basic manners such as "down", he is a quick learner and will come inside when called.  He mastered the doggy door in just a quick few days. He only chews his own toys and loves to play fetch with a tennis ball, he does the funniest things and will toss a toy around with himself if no one is able to throw it for him.  He rides quietly in the car and I enjoy taking him into a pet store or the park as he is nonreactive to other dogs in public.  He sleeps quietly in his own bed   thru the night in our bedroom, but will gladly join you in bed if you want.  He loves to be next to you on the couch and will fall asleep sitting up while you scratch his head, and will lay his head on your arm while you are on your' laptop. He will give light kisses but is not an excessive licker .  We think he may not have been "snuggled" much by his previous owner, as he is just now starting to realize if he rolls over he will get belly rubs.  He really is a lovable little guy with a shiny soft all black coat that is just slightly thicker than a normal smooth dachshund.  We are not sure what Pogi's mix is, but he has the dachshund mentality for sure, please give him a chance to let him show how much he will love you!
