Mac is a muscular, energetic 8 year old power house of a dog. He also comes with a heavy dose of lap dog thrown in just to make things interesting. While he is happy running full steam chasing a ball in a backyard or dog park, his contented moans indicate that a snuggle session in your lap is his Number One choice. In either case, he is happy just being with you. Mac was an owner surrender and it is easy to see that he was well cared for and loved.  He is up to date on all his vaccinations, is neutered and is at a healthy weight for his size.  He weighs in at about 16 pounds and is in the medium range for a dachshund, in other words, not too big and not too small. Mac is not an alpha dog.  He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster family.  He seems to favor the family’s female to play with. He integrated smoothly with other dogs within a few days.  He prefers human interaction when possible and craves attention.  Mac would likely do well with kids as he came from a family with young children.  While he enjoys being outside, he does well indoors which could indicate he was accustomed to being inside. Mac is being kept on the same potty routine as the other dogs and is adapting well.  Praise is a great motivator for Mac and works better than scolding. His foster parents are working with Mac to learn not to get in your face in his demand for attention.  Consistent correction is teaching him to learn that this behavior is inappropriate.  He is showing improvement with occasional gentle correction. A new adopter would need to reinforce this behavior modification and to be patient with him. If you are looking for a dog that’s comfortable in a household of adults or a family with children then Mac is your dog.  The key is that you have the time to give him the attention he needs and the motivation to continue his training.
